DeKalb County Solicitor-General Raises Over $50,000 for Local Non-Profits Fourth annual Dancing with the DeKalb Stars event entertains a sold-out crowd for a good cause.
DECATUR, Ga. –DeKalb County Solicitor-General Donna Coleman-Stribling raised over $50,000 through her fourth annual Dancing with the DeKalb Stars, a domestic violence resource expo, dance competition, and fundraiser. Proceeds benefit local non-profits, the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, and the International Women’s House. The event, which was held at Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center, exceeded fundraising goals through ticket sales and sponsorships.
“After being on a brief hiatus since 2019 it felt great to revive this amazing event,” said Solicitor General Coleman- Stribling. “These two organizations work tirelessly to interrupt cycles of abuse while providing refuge and resources for victims of domestic violence. They are staples in DeKalb County and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to making this event a success.”
The event featured a Resource Expo that included 10 non-profits, that assist victims and survivors of domestic violence, and a dance competition comprised of nine teams of notable DeKalb County community members. Winners of the dance competition were Mrs. Bianca Hamilton, Principal of DeKalb Elementary School of the Arts, partnered with Patrick “PK” Smith. First runner-up was Mrs. CeWyon Chandler-Ward, owner of Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, and her partner, Samuel “Symmetr33” Hills. The second runner-up was Pastor Tyrone Barnette, Head Pastor of Peace Baptist Church in Decatur, and his partner, Tallia Crosby.
Hosts for the evening were Deputy Chief Assistant Solicitor-General and the head of community programming, Mrs. Shari Jones, and Office Manager Mr. Omar Davis. Judges of the dance competition were Emmy nominated Producer, Director, Choreographer, Songwriter, Performer, and Playwright Stepp Stewart, Chief Judge of DeKalb County Juvenile Court Fatima A. El-Amin, and Director for the Conservatory of Dance and Fine Arts, V. Michelle Douglas.
