Phoenix
Phoenix is a diversion program that offers defendants in misdemeanor prostitution cases the opportunity to participate in a program offering counseling, education and employment opportunities. Participants must have little or no criminal history, while being motivated to rise above their present circumstances and change their life direction. Each month, participants meet with the program coordinator and attend court for case monitoring.
In addition, participants complete an intense 20 week life skills class which addresses issues that directly affect women, counseling and health education. Participation can also include GED classes, enrolling and attending institution of higher learning, job skills training and mentoring. Successful program completion can result in a dismissal of the defendant’s criminal charge and expungement of the arrest from the defendant’s record. Failure of the accused to complete the agreed upon program will result in the continuation of charges and prosecution of the case in count.
